Samantha ‘s breakfast are large, fresh and perfectly cooked. A little jar of chocs and some love hearts so nice. Bathroom had both a bath and over bath shower, which was very relaxing. Samantha has a wonderful eye for detail, the monkeys in our room was very enlightening. Firstly the accommodation was bright, cheerful and comfortable. Stayed here for 3 nights end August and was really pleased we picked this. We plan to return when I'm completely healed and will definitely return to Vallum to use as home base for several day trips.… She took good care of me and my family, kept me safe, helped me continue with our holiday. So Sam made arrangements for early check-in at our next B&B and drove me to that lodging. I was treated and was told I did not have to rush back to US but could not continue my long daily hikes. After a good night's sleep and deliciously filling breakfast Sam drove us back to the path saving us miles of extra steps, but then she went way above and beyond any wild expectations by driving back out a few hours later to pick me up and take me to a local medical center. Vallum Lodge owner, Sam, ( and her trusty sidekick Branston) made us feel at home. From the scent of fresh baking, a " welcome table" covered with trail snacks and honesty box to the bright, beautiful, inviting bedrooms each with a candy jar filled to the brim with chocolates. We felt goodness, comfort and grace the minute we stepped inside this lovely guest house. I am certainly looking forward to being back there!… The lodge is easily accessible, even through public transport as the AD 122 Hadrian’s Wall has a bus stop right outside the lodge. I was looking for a spot to enjoy the night sky of Northumberland and a break to recharge myself, and the lodge provides just the right mix of tranquility, history (Hadrian’s wall, Vindolanda, Housesteads Roman Fort etc are all nearby) and also proximity to the stargazing facility / restaurant of the Twice Brewed Inn (4 minutes away by walk). The lodge is located in the middle of a place of rich history and I benefitted from Sam’s insight into and great recommendations of the nearby places of interest. Sam went out of her way to anticipate needs. Sam (and Branston!) is a wonderful and thoughtful host. The room I stayed in was tastefully set up with all facilities and I had delicious breakfast at and packed lunch from the lodge. The lodge is comfortable and well equipped and boasts a cozy living room and reading corner. I had absolutely the most serene time at the Vallum Lodge.
